Thanks Andrew, prezi is certainly a different way to present information (and fun too) as is Bitstrips - always room for more light hearted ways to share information, cheers, Frankie

Real Player Basic
http://www.real.com.au/

Sometimes when you want to show a youtube video or another video off a website, it can lag and play up. You can use real player basic to download the clip and save a hard copy to a memory stick or computer and this saves any mucking around. The real player basic software is also free.

http://www.xtranormal.com/

Xtranormal allows you to create your own short movies. All you need to do is select characters from the list and type what you want them to say. There are free characters you can use on this site. The short movies you can create are a fun way to introduce a topic or approach a subject, without having to use your own voice or face :) For example, you could make a short movie about an assignment being extended a week due to high stress levels amongst students using a cartoon to voice the announcement in a bright way. You can also email your mini movie to others.

Amelia Redpath

Thanks Amelia, I love Tedtalks and while I haven't used xtranormal (yet) it looks like a really useful too. cheers, Frankie

Amelia, TED is a very interesting site. Thanks. Peter

Resources Berenice
  1. Reflective practice videos
A course I teach involves knowing about current issues and reforms and changes that are occurring in the early childhood field. There are now a number of resources available online to use to facilitate discussion. At the moment the new national curriculum framework is an issue of interest. Designed for face to face meetings they can be used for online discussion and comment.
http://www.earlychildhoodaustralia.org.au/eylfplp/reflective_practice_and_the_early_years_learning_framework.php
  1. Online journal
This is an open access, peer reviewed bilingual Internet journal in early childhood care and education. It has some excellent articles for discussion. It has a good international mix of contributors.
http://ecrp.uiuc.edu/
  1. Government websites
Both state and federal governments supply information and online forums for students to access up-to-date information.
Victoria – (also Federal material) http://www.vic.gov.au/education/early-childhood/early-childhood-services.html
Department of Education Employment and Workplace Relations (DEEWR) http://www.vic.gov.au/education/early-childhood/early-childhood-services.html
  1. Jonatan conducts Beethoven
Youtube is always well worth watching. This is an amazing observation to discuss with students. Lots of unpacking to do. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0REJ-lCGiKU

Hi Berenice, oooh some good ones here, just listened/watched the You Tube video - amazing stuff! Also the reflective practice video looks useful too. Thank you! cheers. Frankie.

Faculty Focus
http://www.facultyfocus.com/
This w'site is a US based Magna Publication resource that provides support and resources (including brief articles and Special Reports) for academic staff in higher education that are available for free. You can subscribe for the free e-newsletter that highlights articles and reports. Lots of tips for tchg in the higher ed context. Have fun! Josephine

Hi Josephine, thanks for this one which is new to me (love it!). I enjoyed reading the article about the 8 lessons about student learning. Thank you. :) cheers, Frankie

Some more interesting FREE websites that you may or may not be aware of...sorry not good at embedding things (yet)

1. http://phet.colorado.edu/
any mad scientists among you...then this could help you pass on your skills.

2. http://camstudio.org/
Want to have an application to enable writing/recording your keystrokes, mouse work actions in creating a word/excel or some other program into an online learning tool, then this is one is FREE.

3. http://www.openclipart.org/register
Hope this one works, as can be seen from the URL it is a free clipart repository, I have had a very brief look, may not be good for students (not sure about all the content due to different social/cultural standards) this has come from an open education resource.

4. http://www.nvda-project.org/
This one I just found today and can really see the helpfulness for online learning...it talks the text...synthesized speech of the written word...could help people with problems reading pages of text, or just help to breakup the lesson. Love some feedback if anyone has seen it B4.

5. http://simple.wikipedia.org/wiki/Main_Page
Now this could be helpful as a link for references in an online course (and we saw some of this already in this post). Simple Wikipedia...great for plain English translations of the rocket science that is so abundant on the internet.

Hope these are of some help (sorry you may have to copy and paste some links into your browser)

David
Hi David, the links have come up automatically which is great. There are some fantastic websites which you've listed. I use the openclipart one and camstudio is great too. The colorado one was new to me and i haven't seen the nvda one either so can't comment on that. Thanks too for putting in the wikipedia one, it's great for checking the meaning of all those buzz words we love to use!

There's also this one which has a short but good explanation of some the key terms, the direct link is : http://elearningjargon.wikispaces.com/ It's by one of my elearning colleagues in SA and uses lovely simple language.

cheers, Frankie

Kerri-Anne Gafa

Hi Kerri-Anne, well done and great persistence! I had a quick look at the one on drug facts and found it quite interesting (I have a 14 yr old!). Also I checked the last one and the turning point one opened up fine for me from the main site. Thank you, cheers, Frankie

http://www.chordbook.com/guitarchords.php
This site instantly shows the different chords on a guitar, I often sent my students home with this site.
http://www.blanksheetmusic.net/
Writing music is one of the fundamentals that I teach all of my students, it is important that they have the correct manuscript paper for the instrument.

Glad to finally be on the Wiki site. The video was quick and informative.
Kaye Dawson

Hi Kaye, well done! And, wow what great sites. Wish I'd had access to these when i was trying to learn the guitar many years ago! Thank you, cheers, Frankie

Thanks to everyone for the great sites that have been listed. I love the guitar chord charts. When I teach Cultural diversity there is a really great song I like to show the class as a bit of an ice breaker http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Us-TVg40ExM
I also have a link to a clip on Modern technology and cultural diversity it is a bit of a laugh, while pointing out the difficulties that can be faced http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5FFRoYhTJQQ

One of the main things I make sure to do with all of these resources is to acknowledge their source to the class.

Happy to have figured out how this thing works
Mandy Leggett

Hi Mandy, again, great sites. The first one had me spellbound - fantastic! The second one I've seen before and I was still laughing all the way through.. (fit wye didna they jis say twelev and jis wak doun!) Grin, thanks Frankie

I've had a look around the internet for general sites that i think would be useful, to no avail.
thanks to others for the sites

I have used this site as homework when teaching OHS f2f
http://www.worksafe.vic.gov.au/wps/wcm/connect/wsinternet/WorkSafe/Home/Safety+and+Prevention/Injury+Hotspots/
has interactive components - very low tech, but simple method.
Susanne

Hi Susanne, ah yes, love the office one. Thanks for sharing this. Cheers, Frankie

In our department, we have found this resource from the W.A. Department of Training and Workforce Development helpful ith our RPL students.
www.westone.wa.gov.au/RPL/Pages/index.aspx
from Gero.

Hi Gero, thanks for this, it really does provide some great information about recognition. Cheers, Frankie

I found two very good sites about Fear of Failure - Atychiphobia

http://www.goal-setting-guide.com/overcoming-the-fear-of-failure

http://www.way2hope.org/Illnesses/atychiphobia-fear-failure.htm

Kaye :D
Thanks Kaye, it's always a good reminder that it's actually quite a good thing to fail - so long as we learn from it! cheers, Frankie

Hi All
Not sure if these are useful to you but I love them
http://www.charthouse.com/
This is about the FISH philosophy - Choose your attitude, Be present, Make work play & Make their day

http://www.whomovedmycheese.com/
This discusses dealing with change

Both are really simple books (I know) but may be useful for some of your cohort.

Rob

Hi Rob, both are really useful, the cheese one was familiar to me but the FISH one is new. Thank you! cheers, Frankie
